In “L.A.M.P. (Light Amplified Metaphysical Performance),” Sengstaken utilizes the Pepper’s Ghost illusion technique to conjure IKEA’s iconic manual man in a surreal spectacle of ritual and apparition. The beautifully handcrafted, all-pink diorama is a testament to Sengstaken’s ingenuity and creates the perfect stage for her masterful command of traditional 2D animation. Eloquently narrated by her residency partner, Reshma Meister, “L.A.M.P.” weaves a story of levitation and enlightenment that threatens to rewrite history, scientific theory, and our understanding of the universe.
